WASHINGTON – Today, President Biden visited Minnesota Farmers Union member Dutch Creek Farms in Northfield, MN, to announce $5 billion in investments in rural communities, ranging from rural infrastructure, economic development, sustainability, and climate-smart agricultural practices.
“Today’s announced investments in Rural America is more hard evidence the Biden-Harris Administration remains committed to our communities,” said NFU President Rob Larew. “Today’s news from President Biden will bring significant funding for programs important to family farmers and the rural places many of us call home. Farmers Union members appreciate the attention to the unique needs of rural communities and will continue to work with the White House and Congress to move us forward.”
Programs included in President Biden’s announcement include:
- $1.7 Billion in Investments in Climate-Smart Agriculture
- $1.1 Billion in Investments in Rural American Infrastructure
- $2 Billion in Investments to Partner with Rural Communities to Create Jobs and Support Rural-led Economic Development
- $274 Million to Expand Critical Rural High-Speed Internet Infrastructure
- $145 Million to Expand Access to Renewable Energy and Lower Energy Costs for Rural Americans
National Farmers Union (NFU) also strongly supports the Biden Administration’s ongoing commitment to addressing competition in the marketplace, particularly in agriculture, which has been at the core of NFU’s Fairness for Farmers campaign. In remarks to Farmers Union members last year, Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack stated that “in many respects, National Farmers Union has been the architect and the designer in terms of the work we are doing in this administration in rural America and farm country.”
